Brand
Kanekichi Yasui founded Yasui Sewing Machine Co. in Nagoya in 1908, and it started out repairing sewing machines. The Brother name came from a machine named for the Yasui brothers, and the first Brother household machine followed in 1932. The company began exporting in 1947, set up in the US in 1954, took the name Brother Industries in 1962 and bought the British maker Jones in 1968. Brother has stayed independent since 1908. The Brother machines here are modern: a high-speed straight stitcher for quilters and a long-running serger. Both plug into a household outlet, and the original feet and accessories are worth asking for.
