Machine type
Domestic machines that swing the needle side to side, from Necchi's 1932 BU and Pfaff's 130 to Singer's slant-needle 401A, 403A and 500A, Bernina's Records, the Elna Supermatic and Lotus, Husqvarna's Colormatic cam machines and the Kenmore 158s. Many sew patterns from cams or discs, built in or dropped in, so a machine without its cams or discs may only sew plain zigzag. Several use nylon or plastic gears that can crack with age.
