Brand
Georg Michael Pfaff, an instrument maker, founded his company in Kaiserslautern, Germany, in 1862, and his first machine was built to sew leather for shoemaking. Pfaff made its millionth machine in 1910 and dates its 130 zigzag to 1932. In 1968 the 1222 introduced the built-in dual feed Pfaff now calls IDT, which walks the top layer of fabric along with the bottom one. Pfaff later split in two. The household brand went to VSM Group in 1999 and now sits with Singer and Husqvarna Viking, and the industrial company was sold separately in 2013. On a used Pfaff, check the bobbin case and the voltage on the motor plate, because many came from Europe.
