Pfaff dates its dual feed to the 1222 of 1968, the feature it now sells as IDT, Integrated Dual Feed. The first manuals call it the Matchmaker sewing foot. A second foot at the back of the presser foot walks the top layer along with the bottom one, so plaids line up and thick seams don't creep, and you snap it in or out as you need it. It's a free-arm zigzag with five functional and five ornamental stitches from a built-in cam stack, an electronic speed control that slows itself on thick seams, and a Stopmatic needle position. It weighs about 22 pounds. Motors came in 110V, 220V and dual-voltage versions, so check the plate if it came from abroad. The main switch is the known weak part.
Under the throat plate
Ask for a photo under the slide plate with the bobbin case in place. A missing bobbin case or the wrong needle system is the most common reason a machine that looks fine won’t sew.
The main and light rotary switch has many small parts, and owners report the top breaking off with replacements hard to find. The dual-feed foot and cams need checking on any machine that hasn't been shown sewing.

We'd buy the 1222E titled tested and working with its pedal at $521 delivered, the middle of the $270–575 band, or pay $579 for the one titled fully serviced. There are at least 9 for sale. The built-in dual feed is the reason to own a 1222, so ask any seller for a video of it sewing two slippery layers, and zoom in on the main switch, which breaks and is hard to replace. The $131 1222E comes with its pedal and is worth asking about if the seller will film it sewing. Skip the untested one at $255 with no cord or pedal, which costs nearly twice the complete $131 machine, and read the motor plate for 110V on any of them.
