The Singer 191D is a modern industrial straight stitcher sold under the Singer name, not a vintage Singer. Its manual is dated 2009 and printed in China, and the hook comes from Japan or China depending on the subclass. Singer's UK history site lists it as the same machine as the 220U. It sews a straight lockstitch at up to 5,000 stitches a minute on the light-to-medium 191D-20, 4,500 on the 191D-30 and 3,000 on the heavy 191D-70, which also has a bigger hook and a 7 mm stitch. It oils itself from a reservoir and lifts the foot 13 mm with the knee lever. Like any industrial, it's a head on a table with its own motor and pedal, so you're buying a rig, and the pieces matter as much as the head.
Under the throat plate
Ask for a photo under the slide plate with the bobbin case in place. A missing bobbin case or the wrong needle system is the most common reason a machine that looks fine won’t sew.
The weak points are the rig around the head. Tables, oil pans, pedal linkage and knee lifters go missing, and the clutch motor on a used rig may be 3-phase or 220V.

We'd look first at the 191D300AA on its table with a motor, titled working, asking $350 from a 100% seller. Most of these quote no shipping, so the prices here are asks, not delivered prices, and a rig on a table needs collecting or freight anyway. Ask for a photo of the motor plate, since a 3-phase or 220 V clutch motor won't run on a house outlet, a video of it running with oil in the sight window, and a check that the table, oil pan, pedal linkage, knee lifter and thread stand are all there. Skip the zero-feedback listings, including one with a stock photo and one whose first photo shows only the table frame.
