The 6460 sat at the top of Husqvarna's 6000-series range in the late 1970s, the last of the cam machines before the computerized 6680 arrived in 1979. It shares the 6440's mechanical Colormatic system, with built-in stitches and plug-in cams at the back, the Viking vertical hook loading from the front of the free arm and the low gear that sews at full power a stitch at a time. Owners like the narrow free arm for children's clothes. The 6460 has its own carbon brush holder, redesigned from this model on. Inside, it has the same plastic weak points as its siblings. The original grease hardens, internal cams stick and plastic parts in the take-up break. One that's been serviced and shown sewing is worth more than one that hasn't been touched.

Ask for a photo under the slide plate with the bobbin case in place. A missing bobbin case or the wrong needle system is the most common reason a machine that looks fine won’t sew.
What to check
The same faults as the 6440. Hardened original lubricant seizes it, internal cams crack or stick, cam prongs break, and the take-up crank slide bushing fails, sometimes leaving bits of plastic loose in the head.
01Running: Ask for a video of the machine running at low and high speed. It should run smoothly with no rattle from inside the head.
02Zigzag: Ask the seller to sew a zigzag and a cam stitch on scrap. Both should form evenly, with the needle swinging fully.
03Take-up: Watch the take-up lever in the video. It should rise and fall with every stitch, and a lever that stops points to a broken bushing.
04Cams: Ask for a photo of the cams from the back. Each needs its three prongs intact.
05Low gear: Ask the seller to switch to low gear and sew slowly. It should still pierce two layers of denim without stalling.
06Accessories: Check the snap-on feet, ankle and bobbins are included. Original Viking feet are worth more than generic ones.
With only three 6460s for sale, the $270–410 delivered band isn't a market read. We'd look first at the $350 machine with free shipping, titled with accessories, whose photos show the foot control and an accessory box. The $197 delivered one has its case but no foot control or power cord and isn't tested, so it only makes sense if you can find a Viking pedal. On any of them, ask for a video sewing a zigzag and a cam stitch, since the original grease hardens and internal cams crack, and count the cams in the photos.
